Server Config Help

Hello everyone... i was recently asked about an adecuate config for a server... i'm not sure what components would the best... the server is gonna be used for recording a few surveillance cameras 24/7... idk what's better for that purpose if a 4930k or a Xeon or Dual Xeons... also one of the requirements is for the motherboard to have RAID 5 support for up to 6 HDDs... apparently a dedicated RAID card isn't an option for them... any suggestions would be highly appreciated!!

If it's just recording then you don't need something as powerful as that. An average desktop PC can handle all of that   :P

A dedicated RAID card isn't an option but dual xeons or a 4930k is? I smell fish.

An i5 with 8GB or 16GB of memory should be more than sufficient for a small surveillance system. An H87 motherboard would be appropriate. They typically support 6 SATA 6Gb/s ports and Intel on-board RAID 0, 1, 5, and 10.

Seagate has a line of hdd designed for use in these systems http://www.seagate.com/internal-hard-drives/consumer-electronics/sv35/#features as does Western Digital http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=1210.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

You don't need anything like that. A low power modern celeron is plenty.

If you're doing more h264 encoding or something of the sort for storage, you may want an i5.
