I bought a Asenno 480Gb SSD a few weeks back on Amazon and, whilst i haven't had any performance issues so far, i did notice something odd with the temps reports by HWiNFO64 or HWMonitor.

No matter whats happening/happened it always reports 40c.

If I have just switched the PC on it states 40c (Current, Min, Max), if i check at the end of a full days usage it reports 40c, if i check it before, during, after a bench on ATTO it reports 40c

As a comparison i ran ATTO for my SanDisk 240Gb SSD. You can see in the screen shot below temps goes up to 49c during the test and back down after it (temps change during test as expected)

Neither of these are my main drive btw, i use a 512Gb M.2 so these are both for data and backup. However, i did also buy a 240Gb for my old laptop that was previously only using a HDD. And yes, it also always seems to report 40c (again, no performance issues so far)

Has this ropey Asenno company pulled a fast one and fixed the temp reporting to 40c??? Perhaps to mask current/future overheating?

Most SSDs are not major heat generating components. The number of watts they require allow them to operate (for all intensive purposes) quite cool. Now some values in temperature reporting software has to be taken with a grain of salt. It could also be a bad sensor in the SSD. Either way unless you've strapped it to the back of a power hungry GPU that you pin at 100% all day long chances are it will function just fine for a long time. If it does die prematurely it's unlikely to be from getting too warm from its own generated heat.

Sure, if i had only 1 of these i might think the same, but 2 of them, reporting the same temps always.

I can help but think they fixed the temp sensor at 40c to mask that it's actually running significantly hotter. For all i know its actually running at 75c right now and more under bench.

Still, you get what you pay for. I bought a cheap no name brand x 2 (although it did have some good reviews on Amazon, nothing on temps) so what can i expect?
