Properly CPU clean (replace Heatsink) ?

Replaced my Heatsink and wondering if I cleaned it properly ... With a tissue wiped most of the paste off the CPU & Heatsink then with an alcohol wipe removed the remainder then dried with a Tissue, the Heatsink was fine but the CPU looked slightly smudgy still. Will it be ok?

Sounds good to me if you cleaned it with alcohol. Reapply thermal paste and Mount the cooler and check temps.

Good luck.

Another quick wipe with alcohol if you wanna be safe. Be sure to keep your fingers off though, because, oils.

Use a little elbow grease with the alcohol. A coffee filter works great.

In my experience IHS tend to clean up better than cooler mount surfaces. You may have left some old paste.

Thanks for the replies, I think the smudge may have been from the wipe, does it not matter if there is alcohol on it still when applying the paste?

Alcohol evaporates pretty quick, even the 70% stuff.

I'd just wait a few minutes.
