Hi

I have noticed that my PC is using about 11 GB of ram which is high because I am not using that much of it.

2.5 GB Chrome

1 GB Android emulator

1 GB other apps

how much windows 10 pro is using  ? 5.5 GB ? I had a laptop with 6 GB of ram and never got above 5GB usage with chrome open!

it is not a problem really unless I am working on AutoDesk programs or Adobe.

I looked around trying to find apps to monitor Ram usage in details  but couldn't find any.

Any thought where is the 5.5 is or how I can find it XD or is windows really use that much ?

RAM usage is meaningless, as long as you're under the total available. Windows intentionally leaves things in RAM, just in case you use them again. If you actually start to run short on RAM, then it will evict things that don't need to be there, but up to that point, it's more efficient to leave it cached, and there's no downside to doing so.

Windows will dynamically change how much RAM your system uses depending on how much you have, if you have 6GB it will try to get rid of things not in use so that you don't run out, but you have plenty and there's no reason to cut corners. And it doesn't matter how much RAM you're using at idle it only matters when you run out or get close to running out.

thank you.

As others said, using RAM isn't a bad thing. I have 32 GB, and usually sit around 8-9 GB doing almost nothing. Things in RAM will load orders of magnitude faster than on your SSD, so if it has the headroom, windows will keep things in RAM, which is good, because thats what you paid for...

I have a VM running on my homelab with Win 10, and I only give it 3 GB of RAM, and it sits at about 1.8 GB normally; that VM is keeping almost nothing in RAM, and opening chrome is not very quick... even though its on an SSD. But for what I need that VM to do, its fine.

Point is, it adjusts to the system its in, and using RAM isn't a bad thing. It just means things will be snappier for you :)

I did not know this information about how windows works with RAM

Thank you very much this this was helpful🤗
