AMD prebuilt Disappearing

I was planning to build the budget 4k editing PC that was built on the channel a few month ago. It would have been my first build in 20 years so was understandably hesitant. I then discovered that Currys (UK electronics chain) sell a prebuilt with the almost the same only needing a RAM upgrade to bring it to the same spec and yes it was on an asus mother board. Now for the odd part i went in as soon as I could once the shop reopened after lock down only to discover it along with all the other AMD towers had been reduced and sold off (intels still being sold at full price in all stores). So my question is this presuming they are clearing the way for the next gen AMD (seems a bit early but was the only explanation that came to mind) which out of the new processors would best fit for a 4k budget editing box.

It could be that they are trying to make room for the new stuff, it could also be that they weren't able to get enough motherboards or psu's or not get them at the right price. I had a friend who was building a pc about a month ago and it was near impossible to find a AM4 board that was in stock or not real pricey, as for power supplies they seem to just be in high demand and their price has gone up a lot lately

The cynical view is of course that some money has changed hands to stop Curry's from selling AMD prebuilts.

 

Incidentally I don't believe Curry's has the best reputation. I personally wouldn't buy from them.

By the way, my desktop is a docked laptop. Get over it, No seriously, I have an exterrnal monitor, keyboard, mouse, headset, ethernet and cooling fans all connected. Using it feels no different to a desktop, it works for several hours if the power goes out, and disconnecting just a few cables gives me something I can take on the go. There's enough power for all games I play and it even copes with basic (and some not-so-basic) video editing. Give it a go - you might just love it.

If you are talking about the new ryzen 4000 apus that just came out (only available in prebuilts), I would for for the 4700 or 4750. If you are talking about the ryzen 4000 based on 2+ or zen 3, there is no way to know yet.

nah more likely they have their supplies in much reduced numbers so products that nobody wants are all that's left  especially for AMD, so they stop selling prebuilts at an attempt to focus supply on selling AMD CPUs individually.
