Budget (including currency): $4,000

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Gaming (GTA, Far Cry, Battlefield IV, Overwatch, Doom, Halo, etc) Virtual Reality, (Beat Saber, Engineering simulators etc.) Basic CAD (Autodesk) Basic Video editing (Davinci) and Basic Streaming. But mainly Gaming and VR

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

Upgrading from a HP Pavilion AMD A10 Radeon R6 laptop 8gb RAM

I will be buying everything when I have a solid idea on what I think I’m going to get

Some things are a must in my build, I go through a lot of space on my laptop, So I’ve planned on getting around a 14tb HDD drive to compensate for my usage, Just high storage in general.

In the long term, I’m just a kid that has wanted to have a gaming PC for years, I’ve saved up enough to get a decent rig, but have nowhere to start. I just need some help getting going

(Attachment was just me messing around in part-picker and choosing a setup that seemed good

Thanks to whoever helps!

Wait a couple of months. New hardware will be released and it is worth it for you to get that.

I am far from an expert in this so please correct me if I’m wrong.

well, if you need a pc now, then you should get the cpu, mobo, ram, case, and drives. use integrated gpu, or used card until new gpu's drop. also, dont forget about amd, they are rumored to have a gpu 2x faster than the rtx 2080ti, whether the rumor is true or not, who knows

If they need now then yes, but new CPUs are also releasing and are supposed have pretty big increase in performance.

Then why do you have 128GB of RAM (pretty bad RAM at that as well)?

You are overspending in a ton of areas.

Here's what I'd recommend if you are insistant on maxxing your budget and buying today:

YOu can do what you wan to with $2200:

^^ You could go for a 2080 super to get it under $2000.

I'd wait for Ampere and Zen3 though.
