Power button not working as should.

Go to solution Solved by Jimboy,

Yes thats how it should be. When you want to turn your pc off, you should do it with the operating system. Holding the power button down is only really used when the pc has crashed and will not respond.

Windows 10

1.Windows button (bottom left)

2. Power icon (just above windows button after pressing it)

3. Click Shut Down

Also pushing the power button normally with Window installed should initiate shutdown.

I finished building my pc yesterday and turned it on today; I’ve found that the power button will only turn off the system if held down, (is this how it should be?)

Yes that is how it works. If you hold it down it cuts power to the machine. Not good for any software that is running (windows) and not great for hardware. You should just turn it off like normal with going to the start menu, pressing the power icon and then shut down.

Explain (in great detail please) why it would be bad for hardware to cut power. Its LITERALLY made for that purpose. (or at least with that in mind)
Software on the other hand yes, some doesnt like to have the power cut...

More to do with psu's that sometimes do a voltage spike when suddenly losing power unlike when during shutdown the powerdraw is lowered. Normally not an issue anymore but cheaper ones still do this.
