Hello All!

I have been using an i7-4770k since it was first released, literally (I got a day 1 discount at the local microcenter at the time). It has been a mighty CPU, but I am fairly confident that after 7+ years of overclocked, pushed hard performance, it is finally reaching its end. I have a completely overkill power supply, as well as a 5700XT graphics card. It seems my upgrade really "just" needs to cover the CPU, MOBO and 16-32 GB of RAM. My budget is ~$500. I can push this a bit, but I am aiming to stay at or below this number. My microcenter has a 3700X for $259, which seems like an attractive place to start, but I don't really know. I have been out of the loop for a while, which is where I would like your help. I really have no brand allegiance, just whatever is the best fit for this machine. It mostly games, but it also does some HTPC work. It is a general jack-of all-trades type system.

This computer's priorities are as such:

1. Game (1440p, Mostly racing games, but I also do minecrafting with 200+ mods)

2. Tab Monster.

4. Video: Streaming, Blu-Ray, etc.

3. Boring Excel and Word Processing work.

Thank you for your help! I will be sure to post what I buy (looking to make the purchase this weekend)

I have been rocking 4770k OCd to 4.6GHz with a 1080ti and playing at 1440p 165Hz for quite some time.

Last year I upgraded to 3900X. The upgrade made quite a bit of difference in gaming performance. I haven't even OCd the CPU core, only FCLK and RAM. I run 1866MHz FCLK and 3733MHz DRAM.

But 3rd gen shouldn't be too far away from launch, maybe wait?

Thank you for your replies.

I am not sure I can wait until the fall. I am getting regular blue screens or memory issues. After a bit of testing, I have confirmed that my CPU is on its way out (I in no way fault Intel for this, I regularly overheated this CPU when I first installed due to a mismounted cooler (it was my first build))

What are your feelings on an i5-10600k?
