Anti virus software

I have Norton Internet security Online and my friend tels me that Avast! is better.

and around the internet people say that Norton is better on blocking viruses when they come but Avast! is better on scanning.

 

is that true and what shuld I use? 

Can I run Norton and Avast! on the same time if I turn of autumatic stuff on Avast! and use that for scanning one time a month or so and let Norton take the job of stopping that as dont are on the pc yet?

I hate Norton. It uses so many resources it's silly, I use AVG for antivirus and malwarebytes for scans.

Between the two use Avast. If you want to look at other Malwarebytes is a great anti-virus, there are tons of other great anti-virus programs out there if you look online. 

Norton was pretty top of the line back in 2000... lol..

never run two anti-viruses at same time they will fight each other and it also means more sources of error when something goes wrong

My vote goes to Avast, so you should just uninstall Norton and replace it with Avast. It isn't a good idea to run two active AVs at the same time, even if you partially turn one off. You should also download MalwareBytes free, it's really handy for scanning a specific file or just getting rid of general viruses, where Avast is more of a real-time attack blocker, say if you ran a malicious .exe file, or visited a malicious webpage.

I agree that Avast is a better choice here. The only issues I have with it are with those incredibly annoying popups. Thankfully, there is a silent mode setting once you install the program to disable all popups and sounds. 

 

I also have malwarebytes and spybot as backups scanners if there are ever any issues.
