Buying RAM now, waiting for new cpus

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Maya/Blender and playing games

Other details: I am currently using an i7-3820@4.5Ghz with 4x4Gb of 1600Mhz DDR3 and a GTX 1080ti.

 

I am planning to upgrade my cpu when Ryzen 4000 launches, so I'm going to need a new motherboard and some RAM.

 

I have found some kits of RAM that i am considering to buy. Both are 2x16GB Corsair LPX 3200Mhz but one is CL16-18-18-36 while the other is CL16-19-19-36. The 'slower' kit costs NOK 1449 while the other costs NOK 1699.

 

My guess is that I should go for the cheapest because the difference is miniscule, but I know that Ryzen is picky about RAM.

I don't see the point of buying ram now, especially because you can't use it for anything.

 

There will always be new deals and new ram kits, so locking yourself into a kit now is a bit silly, especially because you can't test it.

Wait until ryzen 4000, and buy your ram then.

 

 

Ryzen 3000 doesn't care about ram that much, both kits would work fine, so most probably it is the same for ryzen 4000, but we just don't know yet. Maybe ryzen 4000 likes 3600mhz instead of 3200? We just don't know

This is an amazing board, not the most expensive b550 and compatible with ryzen 4000.

Wait for 4000 series and see what MHz it support and buy that, anything above is OC and not guaranteed to work... :I
