Hot SSD

Go to solution Solved by Uptivuptiz,

M.2 SSDs with no heatsink on will reach this temperature. What'll happen is that performance will start to drop so I'd recommend you throw a heatsink on that.

is this normal or should i get it returned?

That seems normal to me. Most are rated for a max of 70 though so you might want to get a heat sink for it.

I am far from an expert in this so please correct me if I’m wrong.

That's a bit TOO HOT for an SSD.

Was the box damaged when you got it or something like that?

it was sealed when i received the package, so i don't think it was damaged... at least from what i can see physically. My last SSD (WD Green) didn't behave this way, even though it was installed in the same slot, on the same machine. It stays around 60-70 C on max usage.

Welp.. its in a laptop, but i'll see what i can do. Will more airflow works even without heatsink?

Ah, now it makes sense. I don't think there's a way to get airflow on the SSD and if it was it wouldn't really help that much. I guess the only choice in this case is just to live with it.

Well at least using a cooling fan underneath somewhat works (tested with Crystaldiskmark)... thx for the info btw
