GPU Upgrade

First i'm a beginner trying to learn about computer parts and i was going to up grade my gpu on my premade system i bought in 2017 heres the specs.

 

CPU: Intel Core i7-6700 - 69%

GPU: Nvidia GTX 1070 - 73%

SSD: Spcc Solid State Disk 512GB - 51.8%

SSD: WDC WDS100T2B0B-00YS70 1TB - 85.9%

HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 2TB - 82%

HDD: Seagate Barracuda 4TB (2016) - 90.5%

USB: WD My Book 25EE 10TB - 58.6%

RAM: Micron 16ATF2G64AZ-2G1B1 1x16GB - 34.8%

MBD: Dell XPS 8910

 

i was thinking maybe a nvidia gtx 1660 super but not sure if this will be better than what i got by looking at benchmark scores, can you guys help out a layman?

Nvidia 3000 series GPUs are releasing in about a month and a half. I would wait to upgrade until then.

I am far from an expert in this so please correct me if I’m wrong.

Wow, I thought it was a good like 3-4 months away. Is that for all cards or just like 3080. I think 3080tis come out later, correct me if I'm wrong.

Barely an upgrade.

In fact your kind of downgrading with getting a card that has a smaller frame buffer 

Wait for ampere and big Navi which is expected to come out in Q3/Q4 of this year

Technically yes but wait for ampere.

I think thats the release date for most models. But some like 3080ti or 3090 (if they change the naming) could be releasing a bit later.

ok, so i should not worry about my graphics card yet. thanks for the info guys. i appreciate it. is amphere the next gen of nvidia cards? also can my current specs even do an amphere if thats the next gen of cards?

Yes, ampere is the code name for 3000 series graphics cards. You’re current cpu might be a tiny bottle neck but it’s still a pretty ok cpu. I would upgrade that and motherboard next though.

It’s rumored that instead of a 3080 ti, it will be called 3090. I don’t think there will be both.

now i have a ram question, i put in 32gb of ram into my tower same specs as above, but my ram is at 2166 instead of 3200 and i am unable to change it in the bios. can someone offer some help? i know this is a different topic but i went through all of google pretty much to no help.

I couldn't find anything online for what else it might be called. Sorry, but I dont know anything else you could do.
