I recently picked up my HTC One from Verizon. I absolutely love the phone, I just HATE everything Verizon has done to it. They blocked the FM receiver, managed to load it with a ridiculous amount of crapware, and have managed to make it difficult to change the ROM.

I would really like to do so, but I've already updated to 4.4.2, making it seemingly impossible to root. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone could help me. I have tried all versions of RumRunner, but by the looks of it, it's not functional because of my upgrade to 4.4.2 (3.11.605.1).

I'm aware of possibly voiding my warranty and every downside to rooting, but I would like to do what I please with my device and Verizon doesn't seem to think I should. Thanks for anything and everything.

Well, when I used CM installer on my Nexus 5, it rooted the device for me. Other people have told me differing intel on this, so your mileage may vary. On the whole though, you can't go wrong with CyanogenMod. It's a really easy step-by-step solution that is pretty noob proof, so no technical jargon if you're somebody who isn't that way inclined. You'll first have to side-load the app on to your phone from their website. To do this you must first go into your phones settings > Security and allow installations from unknown sources.

Rumrunner on 4.4.2 requires that you have root access to turn off SELinux since it was created before google fixed the masterkey hack.

Anyways the easiest way is by unlocking it via HTCDEV,

then you will unlock it, but it will still be S-ON, to get S-OFF, get an app that changes SELinux permssions and turn it to "Permissive". Then you can get your fancy S-OFF via rum runner.

When I input the identifier token, I get a response of :

"Unlocking Bootloader Failed!

Sorry it didn't work out. Here's why:

We're sorry, but it appears your attempt to unlock the bootloader on this device has failed. This could be caused by several factors including simple errors in the entry of the unlock token, problems with your device, or a lack of manufacturer support for the unlocking process. Please see the specific error code listed below, and try again if necessary.

Error Code: 160.

Error Reason: MID Not Allowed."

I'm not sure how to continue. Thanks for your help.

I should have also mentioned that everything I input was correct and I performed it multiple times. It just so happens that I get that error every time.

You are getting that Error because its a Verizon HTC One, Verizon has banned them from HTC and unlocking, so any ID coming from there wont validate for unlocking.  This method ONLY works on AT&T/International/Sprint  etc.  It says it right on their main page of instructions.  I went through this myself and I get the same error and its always been known since launch day that Verizon made HTC prevent unlocking of the One on their network.

No offense ASSASSIN but posting a video saying it works, doesnt work if you paid attention to what type of ONE he was trying to root.
