Trying to rename some MP3 files (that gigantic Castlevania music box collection). They are already in folders, want to rename them based on the folder -

I.E - 0124message of darkness (naming bgm) to something like: 1.2 - Message of Darkness (Naming BGM). Doesn't that just look better too you? Since there are 500+ tracks, that'd take a little long time to rename one by one.  What's in like folder 6 should be: 6.x - (Name of the song), folder 12: 12.x - (Name of song), where x is an increasing number.

So write a simple program. <3

(if google doesn't show any useful programs I guess I could write one and release it for everyone to enjoy)

I have this installed. I use it for mass renaming of ripped TV shows when I rip a DVD or blu-ray of a show onto my computer. It's incredibly flexible and allows you to rename or synchronize your naming conventions in a number of ways. Check it out and see if it'll be suitable.

Foobar has some pretty good naming features.

Its under file operations.

Mine is set to this currently:

%album artist%\%date% - %album%\%tracknumber% - %title%

That's probably the best way I can think of for music.

That or Advanced Renamer. It has an option built into form names using different variables. One of the ones you can pick is <DirName> which seems to do what you want, rename based on Directory name.

This. I use this all the time.
