Hello all!

Not only has Microsoft said that they are improving DirectX (maybe soon 12), it's directly being improved to work very similarly to Mantle! :D

AMD instead of being opposition, are assisting Microsoft in this undertaking. (All for Mantle, and Mantle for all! )

What do you guys think?

Also, AMD said (a while ago), they didn't want to keep Mantle exclusive...

So either this, or Mantle itself...

Maybe this is what AMD meant when they said they wanted it to go to everyone...

Yep. Next thing you know, instead of DX12, it will be Mantle2 ;)

Firstly this has already been posted on the forum. Secondly it probably won't be DirectX 11 because it is Microsoft and they will make us buy a new version of Windows to get these features.

First, I couldn't find it, I'm sorry.

Second, False? DirectX  is FREE and is part of the OS...

DirectX also comes packaged with most game now. So it would not take long for it to get to the masses.

DirectX 10 on Windows XP... NOPE! You had to buy Vista

DirectX 11 on Vista... Microsoft held out but eventually we got it

DirectX 11.2 on Windows 7... Err... NO!

THis could also be that the OS is incompatible for what ever reason.

It depends when it comes out,

Yes if theres a new OS, they won't release for the elders,

Windows wants to keep everyone as current as possible so they don't have to have an issue like Android, where EVERYONE is across many different levels of the same OS, causing them not to be able to develop for a standard platform.

As Windows 8 has been out for months, anyone on 7 is technically out dated. I wouldn't expect 7 to get the new DirectX, no.

True. But with OpenGL I can get the newer versions via a driver update and I can still use that on a older operating system. The implementation of newer DirectX versions on older operating systems would be great... or even better... give everyone Windows for free so I don't have to worry about paying for the upgrade to get the newer API.

I agree, free would be better; however, I understand why it's not.

They want to be able to focus on one thing, and make that one thing better.

When a new version of a phone comes out, do you see priorities on the older version? No, never.

It's the same here. Your complaint about the timing of DX11 on Vista, is the same application.

DX12 (or whatever) will probably come to Windows 7, eventually.

That is good of AMD to help them and the fact that they will make it like mantle just makes it that much more sweeter.  Im a Nvidea fan boy and I wanted them to adopted mantel from the start but I think it will be a cold day in hell be for they do.  At least this way it will be forced onto them and they will have to use it which is alot better in just not using it over some petty rivalry.

Why wouldn't Nvidia adapt Mantle if it was available? Free performance... They would be stupid not to.
