xbox 360 controller help

im playing xenia with a ps3 controller from a friend and now after 2-3 hours of gameplay i feel like the controller is too small or my hands are too big and its uncomfortable 

i found my old red ring of deathed xbox 360 today and wanted to use the controllers atleast to play xenia but it doesnt seem to connect

i tried connecting it with a cable that was used to connect controller to console to charge

is there anything im missing?

We use 360 controllers all the time, haven't had any issues.
