It’s a complete new build

Do you think you will want to upgrade to 4th gen Ryzen, or would something like the 3600 be sufficient?

Starting at 3600 would be ideal because it’s a working progress

Here's my suggestion

Thing to note & my reasoning:

-For motherboard I picked the tomohawk because it should support most 4th gen Ryzen, and all of 3rd gen so you should not need to upgrade it. Alternatively you could get a slightly cheaper ~$90 board but it may not have as good support for higher end parts. Or you could get something like the B550 mortar which will cost you $160 but have the best performing VRM and best support for 4th gen (and you get pcie 4.0)

-Unfortunately I could not fit in the 3600 at your price point, so I would suggest either upgrading to a higher end 3rd gen part if they decrease in price, or upgrade to 4th gen ryzen.

-Rx570 is a filler card and will do entry level 1080p. It should be the first thing you upgrade if your focused on gaming. Try and buy one used to save a bit.

-I spent more on psu, case, motherboard and memory so they will not need to be upgraded in the future

-You can add storage later but 240GB will do your OS and a couple of games

I know this is a lot of info and it's just my opinion on what I would do.

Hope it helps :)

What do you think he'll need to upgrade step by step after hes done his GPU Upgrade to something like a 1660 ti. Would he have to upgrade his CPU? or Memory? and If so which ones would you suggest? He does say he plans on recording and edit videos!!   Your information is really good by the way!

Memory should be good for a while so long as 4th gen Ryzen doesn't benefit from crazy high speeds, and unless he needs 32gb. CPU, probably either upgrade to the 3600/3700X (or even new XT parts) but probably best to wait and see what zen 3 gives us and then decide. As far as GPU upgrade, again I would try and wait to see what RDNA2 and Ampere have to offer

Well it's all speculation and leaks at this point. Considering we are so late in the cycle though, anyone thinking of buying new, especially high end stuff, is best to wait just so they don't pay for something now and then find they could have gotten something better for less in a few months. Also with AMD powering the new consoles Radeon are expected to make big gains this year (hopefully)
