ok, so i picked up an HP Thin Client from a electronic recycle bin and i tried running it but it seems like its locked and still has passwords and stuff.. like, i cant browse the web or anything.. and its not windows

im prety sure its Linux. i tried installing windows on it but its 32bit..i upgraded the flash memory from like 1 or 2gb to 4gb so i could install a better os. thing is every time i try to install an os, i can never fully install it..is it because it already has an os? if so, is there a way to erase it and install a new os without going through any passwords n sh...?

Windows won't fit on 4gb of flash. Try a very small linux distro or a live usb. These things have atoms so even when you get anything on it it will be very slow.

well.. these things are literally designed to take a keyboard, mouse, and display, and connect to something else trough RDP, that's all they're made to do.

i'll be surprised if you can get a lightweight flavour of linux to run decently on it, windows is very much NOT a viable option.

I had the same CPU in a netbook running Vista, then later Win7. It was usable within realistic expectations. As others said, the storage is too small to fit Windows. Unless you can either put in a much bigger drive (32GB is fine for Win10), or start looking at a small Linux install.

I might upgrade the ram later and I know you can install an ssd and fit it in there but I’m not really trying to spend money on it. The only thing I spent money on was a 4GB ide flash memory upgrade from like 2gb brand new from amazon. I didn’t pay anything for this pc so it feels good to see it running. I don’t really know much about computers but I like to learn and I’m learning as I go with all the help I can get. Thanks again.
