Hi,

I currently have a i5 6600k, GTX970 and 16GB of 2400Mhz DDR4 and I have 3 1080p Monitors. I want to upgrade my PC. I have already decided on going for a RTX2060 Super, but I can't decide which CPU to get, i7 7700k or Ryzen 5 3600. Since I already have a B150 MBO I could counter the higher price of the i7 by not having to buy B450 MBO for the 3600. And since the i7 is not so dependend on RAM speed I could keep my 2400MHz RAM. So my question is 1. does every B150 MBO support the 7700k since I have an Acer OEM one (Predator G6 710) and 2. should I go for the Ryzen 5 with better multicore performance or the i7 with better singlecore performance [+since i can keep MBO and RAM it is a little cheaper and no reactivating windows which sucks with OEM Keys]. I know that the decision is subjective but i would still like to know what you think is better just for 1080p/3840*1080 gaming performance.

Thanks

Your system was sold with a 7700k so I guess it would be supported, unless those had different boards in them. Given that the 7700k, if you can even find one, is still way overpriced, upgrading to an outdated cpu is maybe not the best idea. I would get that RTX 2060 card and see if you actually need a more powerful cpu. BTW you can run a Ryzen on 2400 DDR4 just fine, yes you will loose some fps but you can always upgrade later if you feel like needing more.

Okay thanks. And with out buying Memory Ryzen does actually end up cheaper so it makes sense then.

I'd throw the entire lot of my moneys available on a GPU long before anything else here.

my 2 cents

WAIT, scratch that. Forgot the 6600K doesn't have HT.

You's in a jam.

2600X 2700X 3600X 3300X ......

Thanks. But referring to your initial comment I don't think that anything over a 2060 super is worth it for 1080p since a 2070 super costs a lot more.

You should get a Ryzen 5. More powerful, plus you don't need an expensive motherboard for it. And that platform is older and Intel just killed that socket.

Thanks. And I guess a modern entry level MBO has everything I need even M.2 support so theres' is no need for a more expensive one.

And does anyone have experience with reactivating an OEM Windows Key? I have read that that can go quite wrong i.e. that you have to buy  a new key.
