The next small step is probably PLC (Penta Level Cell) and the largest and most important step will be DNA as storage.

Is there a way we could get the speed of ram and the space of a storage device together but not get deleted every it loses power?

Yes of course there are ways.

The question is rather whether it is economical.

Intel Optane memory (also called XPoint, or Crosspoint) was and still is one of the more successfull new types of storage that closes the gap between RAM and non-volatile storage. But because the consumer market for Optane devices is rather small it will take a lot of time for high end devices to trickle down to consumers.

But also I think it will take a whole new different CPU architecture to take advantage of what is theoretically possible in the future with storage.

Maybe quantum computing is the answer, maybe it's something different.
