Hello everyone,

I have recently been having issues with my wired connection, and I am struggling to get rid of the issue.

I usually have a pretty decent internet connection with very good speed: 900Mbs download / 600 upload.

But sometimes, the speeds are dropping to 81Mbs/2Mbs.

First I thought it was my provider's fault, but with further testing, the issue comes from my computer.

When I run the test from my laptop (by plugging the same ethernet cable into it), I get regular speeds (900/600).

So, I tried to boot my computer under Linux rather than windows, and I got the expected 900/600 speed, without changing anything on my hardware.

Then, back under windows, I got again, 81/2.

So, I've come to the conclusion that it must be a driver issue.

I tried removing the current driver and installing intel's latest driver. At first it seemed to resolve the issue, but in the end it came back.

I've ran intel's self diagnosis tools, and it detects that something is wrong with the cable I'm using (see issues.jpg in the attachments).

The thing is, that I don't have any issue when running linux, how can it be coming from the ethernet cable I'm using ?

Plus, I've even tried another cable, the issue remains.

I'm lost here, and I don't know what to do from here to resolve this issue.

Can someone help me out ?

I thank you in advance for your help.

Regards,

Azsde.

Would it be a duplex issue?

Can you confirm in Windows what your Speed & Duplex are set to?

The default is Auto Negotiation (or it should be)
Try forcing 1.0Gbps Full Duplex.

That's how my cheapo USB nic looks, the options should be similar for your Intel NIC. :)

Try changing that and reboot.

Also make sure there's nothing in there regarding 'efficiency ethernet' and if there is, turn it off and disable power saving on the adapter by default.

You've tried different cables - Have you tried swapping between Cat5e and Cat6? (Or higher if you have them floating around)

What is on the other end of the cable? Router? Switch?

No other devices in the house/business are exhibiting the same issues?

You could start rolling back through Intel drivers till you find one that isn't shat, when/if you do, let us know ;)

You could try connecting your PC with the i211 directly to another device and run iperf3 between them and see if your issues persist.

Maybe it is a layer 1 issue and perhaps the NIC has a broken port - however a spot of Googling does show you're not the first person to get cross with an Intel i211!

Hope some of that helps!
