So I wanted to get a external GDPU for my laptop, I cannot afford the good looking ones like the Razer Core, etc...

But searching on Amazon I found this "Express Riser" thing, it says that it is for mining, although I would like to ask would this perform similar to a real GPU, not in mining.
And this is the one I'm talking about  https://www.amazon.ca/Express-Powered-Adapter-Extension-Currency/dp/B072KCT191/ref=sr_1_10?dchild=1&keywords=external+gpu&qid=1592191529&sr=8-10

How does this 10 dollar thing compare to the large enclosed 300 dollar eGPUs?

The one your linked for $10 is for a desktop, it is not compatible with laptops. You would have to get an external GPU enclosure and would need to have thunderbolt on your laptop in order to use an external GPU with it.

It's possible very few people use such a thing. If I was traveling, I'll settle for less demanding games, which I play anyway.

Just because one has a strong rig, doesn't mean one can't play something lighter.

I mean unless it ran a hentai 3D AI.... and I was on a very long voyage :P

Ok thanks, I was already sceptical about it being worth while.

Also nearing the end the listing states "PC Desktop Laptop", do you think the title is misleading?

Yes. It's definitely a misleading or translated title.

After finding a device that worked with a mini pcie to x16 mining riser - which I purchased on Amazon - ( the version that works in  the mini pcie wifi slot if it is not whitelisted ), I combined one like the one that you asked about with this - PCI-E 1X to Half/Full Mini PCI-E Adapter Pcie Connector - which turns the mini pcie slot into a pci-e x1 slot like on motherboards ( thinking that I could use it with other things besides GPUs  also ) with a usb 2.0 connector as well - who can't use another usb.

A weird combo I know, but I am using it with an AIO, A Lenovo Horizon 27, which also has an external HDMI input.  It gives me a 27 inch luggable that I can use as a portable 27 inch display, and when using it with the egpu I get less of a hit with the gaming than using it with an nvidia card bouncing back through the internal graphics ( which also works - requires the error 43 fixer app ).

I ended up with:

Lenovo Horizon 27

I5-3337u

8GB Ram

480 GB SSD

1 tb external usb 3.0 hdd ( which I can install games on ) - I wanna get a bigger SSD or internal MSATA, or an external SSD in a USB 3.0 enclosure.

I use it with an RX 470 4GB ( since it is its own external monitor )

I can play most modern games with low or lowest settings at 1080p, and older games with higher settings.

Yes, I have a ( several actually ) desktop PC for gaming, but I wanted a portable all in one with battery backup that could also be used as an external display with consoles and all ( even other PC's ).  So, in the end it is a combo that just works.

AND...  It is a touchscreen...  BIG TABLET!

Yes, and no. Simple though. If your device is able to run a mini pci-e mining riser, which I have found is a big if, then you would need an adapter to be able to use that riser cable combo. The only difference between that riser and one that doesn't need an adapter is the cable, That one has a pcie 1x adapter for a regular motherboard slot, and the mini pcie adapter is designed to fit in a mini pcie wifi adapter slot. If you are working with a laptop then you want the mini pcie wifi card slot adapter cable. Are you even sure that your laptop can run an egpu? These adapters are essentially cheaper versions of the EXP GDC Beast and so compatibility is similar. Again you can't just assume that your laptop is compatible as most are not. People spend more on the Beast because it is a more finished product, works with more types of laptop internal connectors, and uses a slim ribbon connection cable. If you have a newer laptop with an internal NVME M.2 slot free you can actually get better performance than all other adapters because it uses a 4x connector ( not to be confused with an internal M.2 SATA slot ).

I have a 2019 MBA, was thinking about getting this for fun; and I do have a thunderbolt to USB adapter, sooo I think I should be better off without this?

The only way to egpu with a 2019 MBA is an external TB3 adapter, that is around $200+ depending on what you get. Can't do it any other way. You would need something like:

adt link r43sg tb3

Caio
