Hello, i recently upgraded my pc from a 4790k and a Gygabite z97x gaming 3 with 4x4gb ddr3 to a 9900kf an Msi gaming m5 z370 and 2x8gb.

On the older platform i was able to run my Strix GTX 1080 A8G at +125 core and +325 mem overclock and was stable all around, the mem clock didn't artifact even at +500 but the core at +150 wasn't stable. I overlock with Msi Afterburner last version and all the sliders were maxxed event the voltage one. So now the problem, after the upgrade i oc'd my i9 to 5ghz and the ram at 3700mhz with some custom timing too, they work very well fully stable etc but the gpu now can't do more than +75core and 0 to +50 mem, if i go higher some strange purple would appear, if i keep them at the current speed they work without a problem. When i oc'd the ram i changed the VCCSA and VCCIO after a guide on reddit and they work without a problem so does the cpu, i have a Corsair TX850M as a PSU. So what can i do ? Run older drivers? Reset the cpu and ram oc and try to oc the gpu to see if that's the problem? Something is strange with it, i recently changed all of 3 fans because one went bad and i replaced them with original ones, the strange thing is that the gpu runs cool ~60-65 degrees C. I don't think that the gpu is dying but i think that the platform upgrade or the oc have something to do with it. What do you guys think ?

So the issue is a 9700 has a less effective overclock than a 4790? (And no more threads btw) Well yeah.  OC has gotten more and more useless as things advance.  It’s near pointless at this point.  Is there something I’m missing?

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

No, the GPU is the problem, sorry if i explained it bad, long story short, after i upgraded from a i7 4790K to a new platform with a i9 9900KF, my GPU an Asus Strix GTX 1080 A8G isn't stable anymore with the old OC, on the i7 the GPU ran at +125MHZ Core clock and +325MHZ Memory clock and now only runs +75 Core clock and +50 mem clock....

So the issue is you’re getting less OC out of your gpu after a mobo/cpu/memory switch from z97 to z390
