Hello,

I currently have,

MSI x470 gaming carbon pro

Ryzen 1700x

Looking for recommendations for upgrade on Motherboard, and AMD CPU, I mostly do video and photo editing. Do not need the absolute best, just best value, for money. I have 64g of 3600mhz Ram, would like something that takes better advantage of that than gaming carbon pro x470. Again, not looking for top of the line, but best/better value than what I have.

Thanks for you input,

Dan

Just to confirm, this motherboard?

The 1700x is going to have issues with fast memory unless complicated games are played. There may be games that can be played with that motherboard though.  The board seems to support up to 3466mhz which isn’t that far off 3600mhz. The 1700 is likely to have more severe problems.

the generic suggestion would be a tomahawk max b450 and a 3900x.  Budget is unknown though.  There’s also 3950 or going threadripper.  Gets into big money though.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

The 1700x while yes it has a really bad imc still does the job and if you do anything intensive it's mediocre fpu and ipc count not to mention it has 8 cores should be relatively decent

I suggest waiting for zen 3
