New pc for friend

Budget: 700 USD

Country: USA

It will be used for gaming

My friend already has a monitor (1080p 60hz), peripherals, and a windows key.

He will buy it soon.

I will help him build it but idk how to install windows because he bought an OEM disc but most modern cases don’t have disc drives.

You can either use an external disc drive or maybe the product key is written on the disc and you can install windows with a usb drive then activate with the key.

I am far from an expert in this so please correct me if I’m wrong.

He probably has a usb stick but isn’t windows 20gb? He’s gonna need one that’s more than that right?

To make the installation easy, the best thing you could do would be to create a bootable USB with the Windows Media Creation too.  Just go to the website I post here and follow the onscreen instructions.  Eazy Peazy, XYZ.

The 1650 super. It’s more expensive though (but also faster).

What about 1660 super, also i saw that the 3200g is way less expensive but it has the same clock speed and cores, mabye I could get a better gpu if I get a cheaper cpu

You could go for a 3200g, however that is based on an older architecture and is much slower. Also, the 3200g is an apu so more focus is put into the graphics part of the chip than in the 3100. This shows the difference is benchmarks: https://www.cpu-monkey.com/en/compare_cpu-amd_ryzen_3_3100-1344-vs-amd_ryzen_3_3200g-952

if you wanted a 1650 super or 1660 super, and stay under $700, you could wait for the new GPUs to come out and buy one when they decrease in price. Or buy one used now

Ok I think I can still get a 1660 super in a 700 dollar budget so I’m gonna make a pcpartpicker, he’s probably not gonna need the fastest stuff. The 3200g is slower but it’s almost 50 dollars less and in a small budget like this is good

The 3200g is an APU and is designed for computers without graphics cards.  Don't buy it if you plan on using a 1650/1660.  The 3100/3300 is much better even with the price difference.

The 3200g is second gen Ryzen and much slower per core.

Yeah and it's second gen Ryzen and much slower per core.  You're paying $80 for a $50 CPU with a $30 integrated graphics card you won't use.  The 3100 is worth every penny extra.

A 1600 or 2600 would also be much better choices than the 3200g.

Ok, I know i can spend more for more performance, but my friend does not need the fastest, it’s still a cheap cpu and more than enough for him.

I think the 1660 super can make up for the 8gb of ram, he can probably get another 8gb kit later. I don’t think he needs 16gb anyway

I would not recommend that build. You ended up paying double for the psu, almost double for the ssd, and more for the case. I’ll try and adjust the build I posted to get a 1660 super in. Does it have to be new?

Repeat, the 3200g is an *APU* that is designed to be used in computers without a dedicated graphics card.  You're over paying for it if you use it with a 1660 or 1650.

This is what you want instead if you want cheap.

Well I don’t want him to have old stuff, plus I think he will be fine with only 8gb for now, I had 8gb of ram in my system for a while and I never really noticed slowdowns even with extra stuff in the background, and as I said he can always upgrade later if he needs to.

Don't bother bro, this dude knows what he wants already.  The first pcpartpicker list that someone put in front of him is what he's going to buy because he don't know any better.

Also I kinda looked over the psu before but 50 dollars is very cheap for a psu, idk if i can trust it. But yea the rest of the system is fine. As I said multiple times, he’ll be fine with a 3200g. So with the psu I picked and a 3200g it will be 30 dollars over but that’s not that much.

Gosh, what an unbalanced and overpriced build.  Low end APU and a mid range graphics card right out the gate.  Your friend would be better off with a pre-built.
