No video with RX580

Greetings,

 

this is sort of a new thing for me, posting issues on forums as I am usually able to resolve 99 of my issues googling it; however, this one has me stumped.

 

I recently did the unthinkable and purchased an Acer desktop (model: TC-885-E17 for an insanely small amount of money from someone on the FB market( i5 9400, 12gb ram. I already owned an Asus RX 570 STRIX with a raidmax bronze PSU which worked flawlessly in both my current rig, i7 3770 and this new one. I decided to grab a cheapy 580 that most probably was used for mining. in order to sell my old computer as is. However, the newer 580 refuses to work in the Acer system. I disabled all possible bios security function wich allowed me to boot into windows. I had no display until well into windows, the screen flickered, turned on but was 100% static for 2 seconds before displaying properly. I went to install the latest drivers and during the normal expected flicker you get when doing so, the screen never returned. I waited a solid 5 minutes, rebooted the system and.... it goes into windows (Because I can hear the jingle) but no display...

 

Any ideas anyone?

Yep, both 570 and 580 work in my i7 system and were properly stressed out for well over an hour with zero issues or artifacts. The only thing I can think of is go on the igpu, remove and reinstall with an older driver..

might as well try that ... be sure to ddu the drivers in safe mode before reinstalling ...

Okay, I am once again back with the 580, about to reinstall drivers. Once again the card refuses to peovide me with any video output until well after I reach Windows.

 

Tried with Adrenaline 20.5.1 (released on june 10th) and am now attempting 20.4.2 from may 26th.

Is the power supply in the Acer able to handle the card?

I run 20.2.2 and it works fine with my rx 590 if it can help you.

Well so far so good on 20.4.2. However; can anyone tell me if these thermals make sence?

 

Keeping in mind the casing is presently open and there is almost no room for the GPU to breath. I was gettin a solid 15 degrees cooler with the 570. Also it's very loud.

it is on the hot side ... what version of the rx580 is it ? ... maybe it's due to for a repaste.

Well I cleaned it and swapped the paste before I did all that. That being said, this is it's available real estate.

 

Otherwise it's the MSI Armor one with 4 GB.

It's really close to the bottom of the case so that doesn't help it ... do you have any fans that could bring some fresh air to the card from the front of the case ? 

 

That test is quite hard on gpu ... also usually rx580 runs a bit hotter than rx570 ... and that cooler is really not the best there is in the first place so that might explain that close to 90 temp.  Are the fans set at max ?

Good lord I hope so. The fans are so frickin louder then the 570 ever was. I can add a 90mm fan next to the cpu. I'll have to close it all down and check one more time. All that being said, the card still refuses to display anything till I'm into windows which could end up bitting me in the ass later.. 

 

I'll update once everything's been closed off.
