Motherboard issue

So I have a Dell optiplex motherboard. I removed it from its case and placed it on a bench that I've made in a box. I've connected all of the parts on the motherboard. When I tried turning on the pc it didn't turn on so I figured out later that the ram slot is not functional I have no idea why. Then after removing the RAM piece from the unfunctional slot and when I tried turning on the pc, smoke came out of it and it's probably the motherboard because I saw brown stains on the back of it. My question is that whats the reason of the ram slot malfunctioning and why my motherboard got fried?

Usually, optiplexes or prebuilts have this switch kinda thing that is attached to the cover of the pc case(usually white push switch with thin wires) these will prevent the pc from turning on when not pressed.

Im with the mentaility of "IF IM NOT SURE IF ITS ENOUGH COOLING, GO OVERKILL"

MEMORY          : Team Group Elite TUF DDR4 3600 Mhz CL 16

PSU             : Thermaltake Lite power 550W (Gonna change soon as i dont trust this)

CASE FANS       : Mix of ID cooling fans, Corsair fans and Rakk Ounos (planned change to ID Cooling)

So? The pc turned on but the ram slot stopped working and the mobo got fried. Is that the reason?

Sorry , i did y read it carefully. But i think the smoke is an indication of something died. My guess is something shorted it . When tinkering with it, where did you place the mobo?

On a metal plate but I've also placed it on a wooden base is that what you are asking for?

What do you mean by wooden base ?

Well, that might answer your problem. You might have shorted them when the metal literally closed the solder pins underneath.

Just cardboard directly under the mobo? No water droplet of any source nearby? Any kind of conductive debris (wires, metal ect.) , Or something that can produce any moisture nearby (ac, sink, bathroom) .

Nope not at all, if there was any droplets or any moisture I would not be asking this lol.

Is there nothing stuck in the ram slot? Like a bug, a debris or something? Try to look in it.

I did look at it couple of times yet no source of anything that might cause this. This is really confusing. When it smoked the cpu wasn't hot so I don't think that's the source. But I've also noticed that the fan wasn't working while it smoked.

I just saw that melted piece on the pcb. 

I think now I know why the motherboard got fried. The sata power cable was inserted the opposite direction because while I was removing the motherboard I removed that black bezel by mistake and might have placed it in the wrong way. But that doesn't explain why the ram it isn't working

Could be that one of those is actually connected to the ram. Something like a controller or something.
