I have a cooler master gx 550w 80+ bronze

Getting a 2080 aorus in a few days and i want to know if the psu will be able to handle it with my i5 3550 clocked at 4GHz.

Got a 611w reading i  osu calculator and a 435w reading in pcpartpicker.

Its just for a month or two after that im upgrading the cpu and the psu but i need to know if it will be able to support a 2080 aorus

1. the i5 3550 isn't clocked at 4Ghz.

2. A 2080 and an i5 3550 is such a bad combo, your CPU will bottleneck a 1060 let alone a 2080.

3. Your PSU might fry your PC if you attempt to install a 2080.

Ahhh ok.

Don't get 2080, get a 2080 super (same price,better performance)

or a 2070 super ( slightly lower performance, cheaper)

Your PSU can handle an i5 3550 and a 2080, but it may fry the system.

I suggest you wait for the new CPU and PSU.

EDIT: your PSU may not have enough GPU power connectors....

Like...boom?

I will be getting a 10900k and a new 750/850w psu so i just need this 550w to hold for at least 2 months

I overclocked my 3550 to 3.9ghz close to 4ghz

More like smoke.

Don't risk it.

Can you get the 2080 with a new PSU ? (aka buy them at the same time)

Corsair CX-m is borderline okay for RTX2080, not recommended, save-up for smth better.

And Cooler Master GX is bad PSU, do not pair it with RTX2080.

That's a good PSU, should be silent under moderate load too, though I would get the 650w version if the price difference is big enough.

750 is a good choice for me

With the 2080 aorus and an overclocked 10900k plus leaving me some head room for future gpu upgrades

This psu also has 2 sets of 8 pin cpu power which a rog maximus is dfnt using with a 10900k so its a hella good choice for me

Something to keep in mind...  your CPU will bottleneck a 2080 in most situations.  A 4C 4T CPU simply cannot keep a 2080 fed.  Wait till you buy a new CPU.  You could always buy a 3770K, as it will fit in your mobo socket.  Its 8 threads will do a much better job keeping that 2080 fed.

And by the way...  550 watts is enough for a 2080.

homie above here told me that if i connect a 2080 aorus to my pc it would fry the system and another homie in another forum told me that psus have a protection for this situation and the first thing that will fry will be the psu itself

so do you have any idea on what is true or not?

i dont want to risk frying my new 2080 and my 3550 since ill have to 2 months for my 10900k

Usually, no, though that depends on your country's laws on warranties. Again, why risk a $800 GPU on a cheap PSU

Cheap, old, doesn't matter. It's still not a good PSU by today's standards.
