Laptop issues

My laptop has recently had a problem where the screen will go completely off at random times, and if I try to wake the screen up by moving the mouse nothing happens. Also, when this occurs, the hard drive read/write indicator light turns off. The only way I can get the screen to turn on again is by shutting down and restarting the laptop. Any suggestions?

what laptop are we talking about and looks like a dead mobo to me :L

IBM/Lenovo R51. I'm a little confused as to how it could be a dead MOBO since it still turns on a lot of the time, the screen will go blank sometimes a minute after boot up, and sometimes an hour later. However, sometimes when i adjust the screen tilt the screen goes blank just from that, so I'm guessing it could possibly be a screen connector, but that still doesn't account for the hard drive light turning off.

Possibly the GPU if it has burned out. Does it have an nvidia or and/radeon GPU?
