RAM upgrade

hey guys at the moment I am using an acer aspire 5 and it has 8GB of RAM and a 3500U, just taken it apart and it is 2, 4GB sticks of DDR4 memory. I have 8GB of ddr4 memory (only I stick of 8GB) and was wondering if I put the 8GB stick into the acer aspire 5 would it have 12GB of RAM, or would it just not recognise it.

you can look at crucial  SO DIMMS

they are usually micron  (all the time basically)  and often work with laptops
