PSU LIFESPAN?

So what are the chances of my psu popping and taking my whole system with it?. i got a usb card to use with my vr headset and i was kinda wantin to use it with this machine ( iplan on upgrading to the next gen that comes out in a few months and was saving it for that). My psu and most of my build is like 6+ years old and im worried it might pop and that that stupidly expensive card with it. its a corsair cx600m.

The old cx lineup interms of quality is meh at best but if it's working now it's working

It's 50/50 chance, it either does blow up or it doesn't ...

Now that's a old PSU with old topology and not the best implementation at that, it's definitely a bad idea to use it with any mid-end GPU, not to say high-end.

Its a usb card that im worried about. its rather pricy. the gpu i have in it atm isa 970.

Replace the PSU.

Depending on the quality of the board and it parts inside PSU, 2-3 years is minimum. But there are key factors like load, overall performance grade (80 bronze etc.), cooling, environment etc.
My best PSU is still ok after 12 years, peaking at weeks of 24/7 high load work, worst case was very cheap PSU which lasted maybe a year, but it did cost something like 20€ so not like I was not expecting that kind of lifespan.

To be sure, you can always just open it and visually check if any capacitors are swelling:

If any is swollen, get new PSU ASAP.

honestly it looks like that wont be possable atm. psu availability is complete ass atm

People do order and resolder these, but with mixed results. And you need to know how to do it.
Like previous users said, don't stress PSU if you don't have faith in it.
