android studio and Java

Please select the SRC folder and then right click on that you should see the new Java Class option. If you are still not able to see the new java class options, then select the src folder and right click and select "Mark Directory as"  and select  "Sources Root". Now right click and you should see the new java class option.

 

If you are still not able to see it, then instead of project select Android in the top left corner as shown below

ssssssssssssooooooooooo android studio doesn't have a java class under its new tab

can't figure it out. have considered nuking.

yeah i'd do the ol uninstall and reinstall. ps, is that for ftc/frc?

This could be because when you started the new project in the new project screen you chose Kotlin as the language. If you choose java as the language you will get the new java class option, if not then the folder you have selected before right clicking is not meant to contain java files. Can you show a wider screenshot ?

I imported an official FIRST project.

You chose Kotlin as your language, not java. You need to make a new project & select java.
