New gpus are around the corner so to speak. Not quite sure whats holding my system back from running games at the full res of my monitor at a playable frame rate.

Path of exile for instance i cant run at 3440x1440 very well at all, might just be optimization issues.

Current system:

CPU: 2700x overclocked to 4.2

GPU: 1080 Zotac amp edition

Ram: 3200 16gigs (running at 3000) 3200 made it unstable

PSU: 550 G2 evga

Motherboard: x470 taichi

I already think i want to upgrade my case, being my first build i didn't know i bought a smaller case than usual in the 460x by corsair.

Or if theres a way to run 3440x1440 without making my computer a grill for sandwiches and without spending money im all ears

Hey what temperatures are you running on full load on your CPU and GPU? If they are high, let's check what model case you have and what your case fan configuration is. Honestly, a 2700x and 1080 should be running 1440p pretty well (Around the performance of a 2070).

Cpu runs around 63-65c, on a AIO

GPU runs around 72, though if i try to run at 3440 by 1440 instead of 2560x1440 it will start to climb and overheat.

case fans i know i need 1 rn since one of the og case fans wire got clipped during a cleaning. Though this was a issue before that, since temps were the same before and after

as for the case, SKU CC-9011101-WW

I checked the case out, it's a nice case with decent airflow but not great airflow in my opinion. If you find that you are running kind of hot I would get a case that has an open front design, since your case the fans can only draw air from the sides. Also, if you take the dust filter off the top of the case you'll probably get cooler temps. What I will finally suggest to you is to disassemble your gpu, clean the thermal paste with rubbing alcohol and remove any dust buildup. Change the paste for some good thermal paste. This will definetly help if you haven't been doing this regularly with your GPU

After cleaning your GPU, try benchmarking your 1080 and compare it to the results here: https://techgage.com/article/nvidia-geforce-gtx-1080-review-a-look-at-4k-ultra-wide-gaming/

He did some ultrawide 1440p tests with a 1080, like what you are trying to push. If you are doing significantly worse than him, it's either your case isn't supplying enough air or your gpu has a problem, such as a broken fan or something along these lines. (investigate further from here)

I did it once i bought it about a year ago, just because i heard that retail doesn't put amazing quality thermal paste.

as for cases, would this be a bad upgrade? "CA-1I7-00F1WN-00"

Check this out (Price in Canadian): https://www.amazon.ca/Corsair-CC-9011078-WW/dp/B00YJJBFIO/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=pc+case+good+airflow&qid=1590446648&s=electronics&sr=1-5

You see the fans in the front? A case like this will always have better temperatures for obvious reasons. Glass in the front is pretty, but not the best. Also don't forget to compare your gpu to the website i shared with you

the website says pretty much 80c with major games is normal, but right above 83-84 i thermal throttle or blue screen, so either the temp from HWmonitor is off some degrees, or i got something a bit wrong

reason i wanted the view 71, was because of the thermal performance for GPUs from gamersnexus, for the price at the time it seemed hard to beat. I like the Idea of a massive full atx case personally

also the zotac 2 fan cooler has to be worse than the founders blower fan, at least i think it would

I heard blower cards run hotter honestly, unless your case has bad cooling, but don't quote me on that honestly. You are right that at 83-84 blue screening is not normal. Cards should theoretically work up until around 90 c. What I think is going on, is that your gpu is becoming old so I would look into undervolting or underclocking your gpu in search of a more stable experience. This might improve your performance even though you have lower clock speeds, since it gets to work hard until higher temperatures. That said, I would look into getting an upgrade from your 1080. Personally, I would wait until the 3000 series releases because the difference between a 1080 and 2080 I hear is ... underwhelming, to say the least
