I've got a brand new Asus Rog Strix RTX 2080S O8G and I'm not having a nice time with it. Wondering if I ought to get it replaced like for like or something a little different as my old Strix GTX 980 works like a charm.

First off, for the first 4 or 5 attempts, the card would not even be recognised. Got the dreaded GPU not recognised 1 long, 3 short beeps. Now that I've got it working, the bottom half of my 2nd monitor keeps glitching with ghosted images of other bits of the screen, even with an idle GPU.

I've swapped over the Displayport cables (both DP 1.1 but different manufacturers) and the problem stays with the screen. As does moving the monitor to the other DP port on the GPU. Moving the Monitor 2 to HDMI fixes things but I kind of need the spare HDMI port for my TV. Thinking maybe my monitor's DP port likes a bit more power than the GPU is willing to give.

Wondering if moving to DP 1.4 will make a difference or is it my card not as healthy as it ought to be? Is the 2080s just more finicky than the 980 when it comes to monitors or cables? I don't want to send the card back if it's my monitor but if it 'should' cope, then maybe I'd like to get it replaced with something that's a bit more forgiving.

Are there any diagnostic apps I could run on the card to make sure everything is working? GPU benchmarks seem fine but they only run on one monitor. I'd like something that tests all the ports at the same time if possible,

I've also totally wiped the drivers and replaced them. Tried both MS and Nividia sourced drivers so I don't think it's that. I haven't tried older drivers though.

I've ordered a DP 1.4 cable but in the event that doesn't work, I need to know what my next steps should be. I've got a 2 week no fuss warranty return on it so want to be ready for stage 2 if the cable doesn't fix it.

Before you RMA your card I would recommend to remove all GPU drivers using DDU in safe mode, and than clean-installing 2080S drivers, just to make sure.

Yeah already did that. That's how I wiped the drivers in my original comment.

Seasonic Focus Plus Gold had compatibility problems with ASUS Strix GTX970 IIRC, maybe it's the same with this one ? Do you have other PSUs or systems to test this GPU with ?

Yeah. Well the PSU works perfect fine with my ASUS Strix GTX980 so whilst I'm not discounting the idea, I'm thinking this is unlikely. I've got a 550W Corsair I could try. A bit low powered but at least I could see if the glitches occur when not gaming.

No-GPU beeps happened again this morning. Had to wiggle the GPU around a few times to get it going. Seems the back end needs to sit in the slot more than the latch holds it in.

It seems you have 2 16x slots on your motherboard? Maybe try using the GPU in the second slot?

Delving a bit deeper into the issue, I spotted something online that's relates to 2080's, Displayport and various monitors with the same issue,

https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/geforce-graphics-cards/5/288401/rtx-2080-displayport-artifacts-issue/?topicPage=3

It seems in those cases the GPU and the monitors can't agree on the refresh rate. Creating a custom resolution set to 59Hz fixed the problem. The trouble, it resets back to 60Hz on reboot and I have to manually select it again.

Anyway, at least I know it's nothing to do with this specific card as it seems to be an issue with other manufacturers too. Sadly, this issue was discovered over a year ago and NVidia can't seem to be bothered to fix it.
