Technics SA-GX690 receiver

I was given a receiver (name in the title) and I am trying to hook it up, but there is no sound.  There is a test button and when I push it all the speakers work, but when I plug in my TV or iPod there is no sound.  I have gone over all the settings I see, any tips?
