Im going to say that 90% of K series chips never get overclocked beyond the auto max turbo setting on motherboards.  I do computer service and see TONS of K series chips in H/B series boards.

Bought the wife a locked 8700 because she didn't care for overclock.

 

It runs at exactly the same speed as the k does in real world (4.3ghz) and was only $299.

 

If you aren't gonna overclock on the 8th gen i7 there was no reason at all to get the k as it performs exactly the same.
