So i'm looking at boards for a home server and i've pretty much came down to this one..

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157357&IsVirtualParent=1

leaning towards this one because, one, its small and has all kinds of sata slots without having to buy a card.

But i know nothing about FM2 cpus,  only thing i really need is a built in graphics and for it to be a little snappy, overclocking potential wouldent hurt..

Was looking at the A6-5400k just coz its the cheapest one that i can oc..

So good cpu for its job?

Why do you care about build in graphics? when it's a server?
anyway the FM2 socket apu's are good at build in graphics but not that great at calculations like intels and if its just so it can run som low end games like counter strike i think intel is a better way to go ;-)
Hope this helps (if you take the FM2 socket then i think its a good board xD)

You shouldn't really be overclocking a server and graphics performance shouldn't matter. But that aside, no one is going to be able to tell you if a cpu is good enough for a home server if you don't tell us what you're going to be running on that server. Is it just for backups? Media streaming? Are you using it as a NAS? What's your storage setup going to look like? Chances are that yes, a dual core apu is enough to run a home server, but you need to give us some more info.

Also, on a somewhat subjective note, I would stay away from asrock boards. They're somewhat of a second tier brand and their build quality and QA can be a bit hit and miss. Just my 2cents though.

Ok maybe server is the wrong word, i'm looking to build a pc to backup my systems to at night, have as general storage pc and an easy way to transfer data from pc to pc without having to thumb drive everything around.  Probably going to be getting six 2tb drives in raid 1(i think?), with an ssd boot drive i have laying around.

Only reason i said built in graphics is because i dont want to go buy a card, the drives are gonna be expensive enough.

if your running this server all the time you shouldnt really be overclocking.. I think you would probably benefit more from a cpu without built in graphics for better calculation performance and then buy a really cheapo graphics card

RAID 1 across 6x2tb drives will only get you 2TB of space. You want RAID 5, 10, or something like flexRAID.

And all desktop CPUs have integrated graphics these days so you don't need to worry about that.

Also, given what you want to use it for, a dual core apu will be more than enough.

I would suggest a low end i3 build. Much lower power usage <:

As for your disk array configuration, you should _really_ read into it better and work out what you want first.

i3 is a huge waste of money. Based on the board he picked he needs an FM2 apu, but even if he doesn't use that board, if he wants something with low power consumption he should get a pentium or a celeron. I have a sandy bridge pentium running two minecraft servers and a media server and it's usually below 20% load. An i3 is insanely overkill for a home file server.

I would get a server board or a nice desktop board with a nice fast raid card.  Then stack your drives in hot swap bays.  You really never overclock a server and you would use RDP to connect to it.  I always try to plan ahead because a server in a year or so might be used as something different.  If you're going for low price then a least get an Intel board so you have better support for virtualization, if you decide to through vmware or hyper v on it.  That is my opinion only.

I am looking to build a hyper v server for a college project that will support 4 servers, 3 OS and virtual apps I have €2000 to spend does anyone have any suggestions for hardware as I am new to this type of thing

You might want to start a new thread for this question as it probably won't get noticed. I'm not all that familiar with enterprise server software and what hardware is required to run it otherwise I'd give you an answer.
