Budget (including currency): 300$ max

Country: Canada

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Mostly games like PUBG, LOL, KillingFloor2, Rust but also Programming and web browsing with occasional movie watching.

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

My PC is a few years old and now that I spend more time at home with it (because of covid-19) I thought I could improve it to get a better experience somehow but at this point I don't know if it is worth upgrading some parts or start over a new one and I would like to have more opinions. Here is the parts list:

Motherboard: MSI Z170-A Pro.

CPU: Intel i5-6600K (Yes it is overclocked, see settings on attached image).

GPU: Gigabyte GTX 1060 WINDFORCE OC 6GB (Yes it is overclocked, see settings on attached image).

Storage: Sandisk SATA3 SSD (120 GB) + HDD (1TB).

RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws V 8GB (2x4GB) DDR4 2133

Cooler: be quiet! Pure Rock

I know I could upgrade the Ram, CPU, SSD. What I would like Is an Opinion on whether It is worth Upgrading those components or starting over a new build with upcoming new budget CPU's.

PS: I am already waiting for a m.2 NVME SSD (XPG SX8200 Pro) to upgrade my storage but that Is a part that I could use on both this and the hypothetical new rig.

Good choice on the SSD! I have a 1 TB one and have been quite happy with it 😃

For $300 your in a tough spot because your CPU and GPU are pretty balanced right now so if you upgrade one and not the other, then the other will likely be cause a bottleneck.

Unless you really need a CPU boost for programming I'd probably start with your GPU because I think you'll have a better chance of selling it and putting the money towards a new GPU.

But if you can stand it, I'd probably wait 4-6 months for the new Nvidia and Ryzen releases (which will at the very least make current stuff cheaper)

I advise you to keep your build the way it is. It's not worth upgrading yet, especially not to an Intel 9th gen. 10th Gen will be released in June, but most are skeptical about it, since Ryzen has already taken the crown and the 4000 series will, I mean they will, demolish Intel's 10th gen. Keep your rig as it is, try save up money and sell it until the new Nvidia GPU's come out and Ryzen 4000.
