need laptop for stats?

so a guy at work need a new laptop and he dose stats don't no if that the program or what. thats what he dose for school. im trying to get the modle number from his laptop of what he has now just don't no anything about it. would he benefit form more ram or good cpu? my guess anything wil work and most likely get 8 gb ram and probly and i5 of some sort. no idea of budget he in school so say$500 to maybe $700? can

For stats you learn in school, normally any semi modern system will run it fine. I have done a good amount with R and python in school and it would run on my core 2 duo systems fine. They normally give you small datasets to work with.

 

This really depends on the program, so get more info if you can.

all right got a bit more info. so he uses a program called program r and uses google chrome and has lots of tabs open. so is that cpu performances or ram?

I have been using R a good amount lately, It should run on almost everything for school projects. You won't use much ram or cpu for most all things your doing(like 100000 rows runs fine on my 8350 system for most of what im doing, and thats really big for a school dataset)

 

Chrome likes ram, but really, 8gb is probalby fine.

 

Id probalby try to find one of those ryzen 4000 laptops if you can.

sounds like is a new cpu witch mean hi cost? i mean atm its hard to find anything so

 

ok so ill tell him 8 to 16 gb ram and any new laptop with in his price point. gather them up and then look up reviews of each laptop to find the pros and cons of each.

 

he nos nothing about pc or laptops or what a cpu or gpu so..... if any cpu new now days sould be plenty. its posable he might have blotware and junk install on his laptop slowing it down. he needs a new one becuse the batter is no good and he woident no were to get a new battery nor replace it. so new is that idea...
