As other suggested, make sure that the issue is exclusive to your computer before you continue troubleshooting. If the issue is exclusive, make sure that the USB extension cable that you're using is USB 3.0.

It is usb 2.0 thank you for the answer

I am useing a ethernet cord plugged up to a ethernet to usb adapter and that is plugged up to the usb extension cable (ethernet cable was not long enough) which then plugs into my computer. My wifi plan is 300mb but when I run a speed test on my computer it is only about 190mb. This does not make sense because i am useing ethernet. It is not my ethernet cable because it is cat6. Why is this?

What speed do other systems get on the network?

Can you test the speed with iperf to anouther system on the network?

when you try it on another device it is 300mb at first but then if you check again later after you have started doing things it is the same as my computer

@turtlecraft

While USB 2.0 is rated to go up to 480 Mbps, which you should be able to achieve given that it is the slowest point in your wired connection (hopefully, the ethernet is gigabit), there is bound to be signal degradation with the amount of links in that single connection.

If the USB interface is being shared with multiple other devices, this can also slow down the overall speed of the adapter. And Cat5e ethernet runs greater than 100m cannot guarantee gigabit link speeds.
