Hi,
I'm new to PC building and have just got the following parts for my first build:

CPU - AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor
Motherboard - ASRock B450M Steel Legend
SSD -  Sabrent Rocket 512 GB M.2-2280 NVME
RAM - Patriot Viper Steel 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory
GPU - PowerColor RX 5700 XT 8 GB Red Dragon
PSU - Corsair TXM Gold 650 W 80+Gold
Case - Fractal Design Meshify C Mini
Monitor - AOC Q27G2U 27.0" 2560x1440 144 Hz

I was planning to keep the PC for 5 - 6 years as a general PC and to do some gaming at 1440p.

Do you think that the GPU is overkill ? I had the option of a RX5700 MSI gaming X for £70 pounds less.

Just found out that B450 will not be supporting Zen 3. Does this matter if I'm looking to upgrade in 5 - 6 years ? Is it worth returning MOBO to get B450m Mortar Max as has bigger bios chip, and may leave me able to upgrade CPU in future - if AMD change their stance?

Been gaming on a PS4, and my NUC i5 is 6 years old. In my mid 40's so lots of things have changes since I built a PC 20 years ago!
Thanks.

No such thing. You can always use it when you upgrade down the line.

OK thanks. Was slightly unsure of the timings of building now, but as i'm not looking to upgrade for some considerable time I guess it's less of an issue.

I opened the MOBO box and noticed that the seal was broken, so will be sending that back to Amazon. Have ordered the B450m Mortar Max as replacement, not in stock at the moment; so if it doesn't come back -  I can possibly wait until B550m. Will the B550m boards work with Ryzen 5 3600 chips?

I'm not a Ryzen person, so I can name no comment on compatibility, sorry

Swap out your current mobo for the B450 tomahawk Max. It’s a better choice for not much more. Also go for the 3600 on the ram. Find a good deal. Ram is very important for ryzen. Also check your timings when looking! Consider the ryzen 5 3600x for just $25 more. It boosts to 4.4 instead of 4.2 and has a better cooler! Also if you want to jump over to Nvidia the 2060 super is a great choice! Just things to think about :)

(also think about waiting to get a pc, now is not a fantastic time)

You can use PCPartPicker to spec out a pc and gives you price comparisons and makes everything easy otherwise that doesn’t seem too bad

Yes the more I research the more complex the choices become! When do you stop waiting for new tech!

The monitors AMD Freesynce so am best with Radeon GPU I think.

I've already got the CPU, would I really seen a great advantage if I returned to Amazon and got the 3600x ?

Thanks

There's a little to no difference between the 3600 and 3600X. So no, you shouldn't return it.

The B450m Mortar Max will still not leave you much room for upgrade outside on zen 2. If you want a more future proof mother board go for a x570 or wait a month for the b550.... although with ur time frame who know what kind of compatibility issues we'll face

Yeah not worth it. If you already have it, keep it :) Just if you hadn’t ordered it yet it was a good choice.
