My graphics chip cooked...

Hello.

So I have an old Asus z96J. It's damn a good laptop. Was used only 3 months. So video chip dead. It's nvidia Geforce 8600m GS 256mb. These Chips were corrupted tho.

I was wondering can i put eGPU? Or should i buy a new chip from ebay and try to change it DIY style?

i dont think that chip is socketed... if you are good at reballing and hot air soldering you can try it

Tryed it didn't do s**t. Its not soceted...

its not worth the hassle imho, the laptop is pretty old...
You have to look at the chip, if its soldered you will not be able to swap it easily. And i dont know if this laptop supports eGPUs

Yeah that is the prob. I do not know. Is it possible to access BIOS without seeing stuff?

Just wondering, why don't you buy a new laptop (or used one) and transfer the data of the old laptop to the new one?
