AMD VS Intel?

Hello guys,

I want to upgrade my I7-4790K because i feel its bottlenecking (my I5-9400F runs way smoother in my other computer) (check specs)

But i do not know to what a i wanna upgrade,

was thinking of a

  • Ryzen 5 3600
  • I5-9600KF

Why should i buy wich? and why shouldnt i?

Thanks in advance guys!

Main PC:

Asus VII Ranger

Corsair H100i

MSI GTX1070 Twin Frozr

Dual Channel 16GB DDR3 2400Mhz

i5s are currently not remotely worth it considering the Ryzen 5 3600 matches the i7 8700 model I many cases. The R5 runs cooler, quieter, uses far less power, has an upgrade path and better performance. The 9600KF is on a dead end platform full of security holes

The Ryzen 5 3600 has SMT which generally makes it an objectively better choice than the i5-9600KF

Both are very competent CPUs

Edit: Above answer is better

If you really want to, you could spend a little less and go with the 2600 or the 1600AF

but the 3600 is such a good chip that if you have the money you should do it

Oh, also heads up, if you upgrade to either of these you'll need new RAM

At this point buying Intel is not generally recommended if you're going for new parts, they need to sort their shit out first. 3600 is definitely the best price-performance CPU right now.

For cheaper alternatives, Ryzen 5 1600AF and 2600 are very good for the price.

Yeah, please try to get at least 3000MHz and dual channel(2 sticks).

RAM speeds are a lot more important on Ryzen systems, but as long as you get at least 3000mhz (i personally recommend 3200) RAM you should be fine, make sure you do dual channel, it helps a lot.

Also make sure latency is CAS 16 or CAS 15. High latency (CAS 18-19) will have a negative performance impact on both AMD and Intel

what @5x5 said but if you want to save some money consider also the 3300X (120$ ) or the 3100 (100$)  very capable CPU especially for their price and because they are very new I dont have any benchmarks in mind compared to i5 ones but if they dont beat them they will be atleast equal

The 3300X matches the i5 9400F in most tasks including gaming. It's basically a cheap 7700K
