Budget (including currency): £100

Country: UK

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Light gaming (ie CSGO, PUBG Lite, Valorant etc)

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): 1024x768 for Valorant and CS, 1080p PUBG Lite

Hi guys!

So I currently have an A10-9700 on an A320M-K and want to upgrade to a better APU. The choices I have are the following:

- get a R3 3200G now

- wait for 4th gen Ryzen APUs

I can run CS and PUBG fine for now but I'm worried that 4th gen Ryzen APUs wont be supported on my A320 (even though they are Zen 2) and I don't know when they will come out. So which one should I go for?

I need to just upgrade the CPU, I already have a board (A320M-K).

The latest Ryzen ACPUs require a X570 or B550 Motherboard.  If you want to keep your current motherboard then you only have 1 option the 3200G (as long as you have confirmed the current Mobo is compatible with a 3200G).

EDIT:  @williamcll @Lurick correctly pointed out the above statement is confusing.  Please disregard and read the un-confusing and correctly typed comments below.   I apologize for the confusion.

edit: nvm didn't realise you're still on the iGPU. your board will support the 3200G after a bios update.

Wrong, on ASUS' It clearly states it supports the 99$ Ryzen 3 3100 but make sure to update your BIOS to the latest version.

I'd have personally recommended you to go with R3 3200G and overclock it to it's full potential.

Why don't you save some more and buy a basic B450? You'll have way less compatibility issues and you can even overclock the hell out of Ryzen.

*I personally* consider buying an unlocked chip and not overclocking it as a waste of money

Dont wait for the 4000 series, your motherboard is A320. Get yourself a Ryzen 3 3200G.

With the money you have, get an actual 3rd gen Ryzen 3 chip. The 3200G APU is actually still a Zen+ chip, basically a 2300X with an iGPU.

Save up a little more before upgrading and you could get yourself a 3100/3300X as well as a dedicated GPU which will way outperform a 3200G.

I think (and might be wrong) but they meant the upcoming 4000 series CPUs when they said latest. In that case, if they were talking about the 4000 series CPUs then they are correct.

Sorry, but @Lurick said it better than I.   I am actually working and what I typed is not fully what I meant.   Sorry for the confusion.

You can alternatively wait for the 3rd generation ryzen APU, since APUs and Laptop CPUs have one generation number higher.
