Budget (including currency): Reasonable. $1k USD give or take a couple hundred

Country: US

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: iRacing.com, work (Citrix based) and if it'll support Quake and Quake II (id engines or reasonable variants) that'd be fine.

Other details

Planned components:

CPU: Ryzen 3600X (yeah, yeah... most of what I do isn't usually CPU intensive but I still may wanna play Red Dead Redemption...)

Motherboard:  I had a question here but the latest (05/08/20 or 08/05/20 depending on how you do dates, as if that isn't confusing...) TechLinked answered it and Riley, dude... that line about Grimes was freakin' funny!!

The problem is, well, I still have a question.

Which x570? Or are there relatively inexpensive B550 boards out yet?

Either way, I may spend a little more on the board, but I can keep my RAM and mobo for the next big upgrade...save huge on the back end. Hopefully.

At any rate.

Cooling: Can I get away with a be quiet! Shadow Rock? I can't see overclocking the 3600 but do I need to mess with an AIO? I'm OLD school here and if a fan on top of the processor wasn't enough, you were pushing the circuit too hard. And I'm electrician enough to know that getting liquids anywhere near electricity can be a bad idea.

RAM: Ripjaws 16gb (8x2)

Storage: I've already got a Kingston KC-600 which, unless iRacing uses a ton of access, that should be fine for storage. I'm ambivalent about an M.2 unless its just necessary for in-game performance.

GPU: EVGA RTX 2060 KO (should be good for a while and keep in mind I'm coming from Intel's onboard graphics on a 2nd gen mobo on an Intel H61 chipset)

EVGA BQ 600W Bronze

Logitech G29 Steering Wheel with pedals, shifter and a brake pedal mod (maybe)

And two things I can't change. M$ Natural Keyboard 4000 and a Logitech M570. (It's easier to move around a spreadsheet environment with a rollerball than a mouse...and carpal tunnel is a thing...)

I'm going to recycle my case... it's currently housing a Core Duo 3.3ghz yadda, 8gb on an Intel mobo.. I used it for 6 years so far, but what I want to do exceeds what this is capable of.

Suggestions? Corrections? Comments? Am I missing anything? (Yes, I did think to get some thermal paste...)

Your help IS appreciated!

~Max

B550 comes out June 16th

the RX 5700 is faster for the same price unless you're trying to do minecraft ray tracing.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

You don't really need after market cooling if you're not going to be overclocking. The wraith spire that comes with your CPU will be enough for the 3500X

Streetguru: gtk... and who knows.. .I may get a wild hair and want to play with RTX audio...or Minecraft...

Merco: Yup... I meant the 3600x.. my bad...and edited the post to reflect that... thank you! As for M.2 vs. SATA.. For me, once iRacing is up, I doubt it'll use a lot, but who knows. And I reboot when Windows says I need to reboot. Or I'm screwing with stuff... so initial load times for most things isn't that important. I get that M.2 rocks but I've already got the KC-600 so...why spend the money when it won't make a lot of difference in the overall scheme of what I'm doing? Granted, it isn't a LOT, but a dollar is a dollar whether its USD or CDN?

Darpyface: So as long as the proc has the Wraith in the box I'm good to go. That's about what I though but.......

If I go with the Shadow Rock, will that allow me to play with the OC without getting into AIO range?

Thanks guys! Y'all ROCK!

Most of the time air cooling is better than water cooling unless you're doing a custom loop. The main advantage to water cooling is that it takes longer to heat up. Even the included air cooler is good enough to do some mild over clocking.

Darpyface: And that's what I want.. I'm not going to be in whatever game at 8k on a 300hz monitor and until recently, I didn't really have a need for speed with what I had. I want to be ahead of the curve on a reasonably priced iRacing rig since I'm going to be making an investment (the rig itself could cost as much as I want to throw money at...pro rigs are in the $40k range) that gives me some flex on cost up front and some abilities to upgrade in the future which is why I'm looking at either the x570 or the B550. I probably won't upgrade again until Intel does their leapfrog in a few years.

But, as someone with a bit of curiosity who may want to push the OC button at some point to see if upgrading the processor or cooling situation makes for a more productive setup,

At any rate, thanks! If the Wraith can handle what little I'm going to throw at it, that's awesome...

Yeah I would also say not worth upgrading, if you have to choose to buy one of the 2 from the start it's a different decision. Looking at benchmarks M.2 NVME looks impressive, but real world performance for general use and gaming is actually quite similar. In the future that might change, but atm you barely feel a difference to a SATA drive.
