Budget (including currency): $650-800 CAD around there

Country: Canada

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: CS:GO, some AAA games, web-browsing, maybe frequently streaming and videoediting

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-Z97X-UD3H

CPU: Intel i5-4690K

RAM: CORSAIR Vengeance LP 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3

Storage: Crucial BX100 250GB, Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 500GB, Seagate BarraCuda 2TB

GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 970

Power Supply: EVGA 500 Bronze 500W

Tower Case: NZXT S340 Black Steel ATX

I'm planning to upgrade my mobo, cpu and ram. Trying to keep other parts if possible ofc but idk if GPU will be affected by anything.

I have little knowledge of pc building and parts since my buds built this while I stood by although I'm currently learning more about pc building rn.

I've seen Ryzen 5 3600X or Ryzen series a lot in builds but hey idk.

I'm thinking of buying it now to 2 or 3 months down the line.

Thanks

At this very moment there appears to be a shakeup with ryzen.  It has just come out that the runaway favorite motherboard chipset b450 is not going to support zen3 and the result is all the cost benefit math which favored AMD quite heavily just got thrown up in the air.  It might land more or less where it was or it might not.  If you’ve got a few months perhaps asking after the dust settles might be prudent.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.
