Hey guys,

I wanted to know your thoughts on either I should overlock my CPU.

My main goal with this desktop is gaming, and having performance/FPS as stable possible.

I don't usually play games that require a lot of resources, and the games I play I usually decrease the settings to increase the performance and keep the FPS stable, the reason is I play competitive online games, no single player.

Here's my setup:

  • i7 8700k
  • ROG Maximus X Hero
  • Strix 1080ti OC
  • 16gb Ripjaws 2400hz CL 15 (I'm planning to upgrade this to the Trident Z's CL 3200mhz CL14)
  • NZXT Kraken X62
  • Fractal R2 Design (3 Fans)

I've never did an overclock, and honestly I don't feel the need to do it, but on the other hand I was wondering if it could increase the overall gaming performance.

 I appreciate your time.

Cheers and stay safe!

Looks like you spent all that money on a fancy high end motherboard, CPU, and cooler just to have access to that feature (more or less) so it would be a bit of a waste to not go for it.

With the modest 4.3GHz all core speed, a small overclock is a great way to get started. Getting 4.5 or 4.6 all core with less than 1.25 volts to the CPU should be possible, maybe 1.2 if you can tweak it some more.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

Overclocking your CPU will help in multiplayer games, as it will improve your minimum fps.

You could just turn on MCE if you don't want to really mess with things, and while not incredibly efficient, will work for the most part and give you a 4.7ghz all-core.
