dunno if this is the right place for this topic but....

I plan on a minor upgrade since I find that my old video card can't keep up with the games these days anymore I have money for another upgrade aside from the video card my quesiton is what would you guys replace?

Is going from a non-SSD boot drive to an SSD one am I gonna see a lot of improvement?  I can also buy 1 TB of HDD so I don't have to constantly plug-in my external drive(s). Buy a 2nd monitor?

My Specs:

Motherboard: ASUS P8Z68-V Pro

Proccessor:  intel i5 2500K

RAM: 8GB rip jaws

Video Card: 5570 to MSI 7950

Storage: 500GB HDD WD. 7200 +6TB external lol

I would get a 7950 unless you really want fast boot times and loading times in application. I would recommend the Samsung 840 120gb ssd.

This is probably the fastest startup I have seen imo (from NCIX PC): https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10151426895420449

I have a samsung 840 pro and mine usually boots in 20-30 seconds. Most people don't get it just for boot times, they get it to install their most used programs on to help with load times. It's been awhile since I've had my OS on an HDD, so perhaps I don't realize how much of an improvement it actually is, but honestly I think SSD's are a little over-hyped...

A second monitor is really good, makes multitasking so much better. I wish I never sold off my old monitor, but yeah, monitor over SSD.

ssd is literally 100 time faster than a hhd for the responsiveness and accessing data.

ssd is the best upgrade you can get. and that should be your first upgrade.

the 2nd upgrade you can do is the video card.

Here's the thing, you need to ask your self what would help you the most?

I have both an SSD and run two 1080p monitors, one 23in Samsung & 21.5in Benq, The thing I find is I mostly use the benq screen as monitoring monitor if that makes sense, on the benq monitor I have my hardware stats and monitoring applications like cpu usage/temps and so on along with a mumble client and sometimes a second web browser for various things, the Samsung monitor is my main monitor and pretty much everything else gets put on and used on that screen like games and primary web browsing etc.

Don't get me wrong I absolutely love having two screens but I do notice I generally only use the other for monitoring stuff.

Now the SSD part, my SSD is a OCZ Vertex 3 I think probably not the best but does the job, now the biggest improvement you will find is overall system speed and responsiveness, installing some games to an SDD does help with map loading times and stuff like that.

In the end you will want to get the thing which you find you will get the most benefit from.

Alright, so most here are saying an SSD; but I disagree. Going from 1 monitors to 2 monitors is a huge difference and is far more beneficial than an SSD. Just upgrade to an SSD later.

It depends. I have 4 monitors laying around, 3 of which are the same, but I don't use the extra screen for anything unless i'm gaming/streaming to be honest...

An ssd will dramatically improve the performance of your pc over using a hdd for boot. It won't give you more fps in games, but in terms of the snappiness of your pc no other upgrade can really compare. If your really more worried with gaining fps in games and can deal with using your external hdd for a while longer then get the 7950.
