So I am doing gaming servers with one of my friends and currently run off a 2x E5 2670v2 but we are currently looking into upgrading to a new machine for better performance but I have also been looking into migrating to Ryzen off my I7 8700k Just been waiting for the best opportunity which might be coming up for me does anyone know how you would build a dedicated server that is meant to be shipped to a data center like in a 1U case using a 8700k. Like can any dedicated server case hold a ATX board or does it need something custom.

What servers? What games?

If you want it to be 1u, you probably want server grade hardware, as atx doesn't go into 1u easily. Id just pickup a newer used server like a r630 or a amd epyc server. ALso you get more goodies like impi so you can do more remotle troubleshooting.

Do you have a budget?

and we run a Minecraft Server but are expecting to get a decent player count soon.

Just one of them? How many players?

what if we went with 2U as that is what is currently at our data center?

2U is easier to do with diy, but still a pain. Id personally just go premade with servers, works better, and better than you can do with diy.

and we are expecting to have about 100-300 players on the server we have everything fully optimized and it will be running off multiple instances to allow more optimization but we want to make sure to give players the best performance with as little stutters as possible as PVP is kinda huge in the type of server we run and we have people mining near each other often. This would also be hosting a 2nd Server sooner or later as we go for fully custom gamemodes currently we are redesigning Prison

How much do you want to diy? Id get a premade server as its much less hassle, more reliable, and has more features, but depends on your goals. Those desktop chips are probably a bit faster due to the higher clocks.

unsure I am more just figuring out details and getting others opinions I jumped on this 2x E5 2650 v2 and what we are going to try first is the multiple instances blended together to create better performance as its a single core system but I am prepping in advance to get others opinions
