Ok maybe i asked the wrong question what i meant is that i have a mobo with 7.1 soundcard and i want to buy a headset and i dont know if i should buy a stereo or 5.1 or 7.1 headset.

So can i get for exemple a stereo headset(that's i think 2.0 or 2.1) and work with my mobo soundcard to give me 7.1 sound?

I'm going to say no. Usually, the good 7.1 headsets work by taking a 7.1 audio stream and doing a special conversion to get that to play on headphones. This conversion is done on the audio processor that comes with the usb dongle. Although you can get software to give you 7.1 sound over 2.0 headphones, simply plugging in 2.0 headphones into a 7.1 motherboard won't do that.

so what is the 7.1 integrated soundcard from the mobo doing? is it just siting there colecting dust if i were to buy a 7.1 headset, hyperx cloud 2 for example which has a 7.1 soundcard dongle type thing included.

It's sitting there waiting for you to connect a compatible 7.1 surround sound speaker system / audio receiver? You're spot on though that built-in soundcards are "just sitting there" doing nothing if you're bypassing them using a USB headset or audio interface.
